Flame grilled Chicken at Casa do Frango

Casa do Frango

When I received a message from my sister in Dubai about planning a family get together meal in London, I immediately started looking for restaurants serving plates of food I knew my siblings would love. That plate of food was flame grilled piri piri chicken , served at a Portuguese restaurant a few minutes walk from Borough Market.  I picked the Casa do Frango  based on a glowing review from one of my fave Guardian food critic, Jay Rayner…that and it’s chicken of course. What’s there not to like.

Now when you mention flame grilled chicken, one restaurant in London often comes to mind. Cheeky Nando’s and their 10% NHS discount , a staple of many families due to pricing and taste.  It’s inevitable that any newish restaurant that prides itself on serving flame grilled chicken as their main will have to compete against Nando’s . On eating at Casa do Frango however, that’s where the comparison ends. The dishes at Casa do Frango were tastier , the sharing plates had more variety ,  the venue with its plants was beautiful and the pricing actually wasn’t bad at all. You can have a half chicken brushed with piri piri sauce , lemon and garlic or Oregano for £10 , with sides costing anywhere between £3 – £6.

I had a nice time at this Portuguese joint. The food and lively ambience makes it an ideal place for groups. I am off to Portugal in a few days, so I’m looking forward to more Portuguese dishes..and the wedding ofcourse :).  Watch out for some new blog posts.

Finally, there’s a new Caso do Frango restaurant opening in Shoreditch this December. Make sure you Subscribe to their mailing list as they have a 50% off opening week deal. I’ll be the guy in the corner stuffing his face with some of the tastiest flamed grilled chicken around.
