Hello readers, hope the week’s going okay so far. After last week’s beautiful London weather, this current grim weather ( it just keeps on raining) does dampen ones mood slightly. So what better way to jazz up the week by attending an after work team bonding session that involves afternoon tea at the Marriott hotels library Lounge, featuring copious amounts of champagne, cakes and more champagne. There were discussions about quality with my work colleagues ( Quality team ) in the midst of all this, but I think I was distracted by my 4th deliciously filled chocolate macaroon. Jeremy below was definitely distracted by something else.
Have been to a few afternoon teas and I like the fact that you were able to sniff in some of there tea selections prior to choosing.
Quite important as some of the teas had some interesting smells.ie whiff of gun powder. A few of us went for the Rooibos, Orange and Cinammon. A sweet choice I might add.
Next to the teas were this lovely lavender and lemon panacottas. Quite refreshing actually
The cakes and sandwiches arrived promptly. They didn’t have an actual menu at the table, however the chef was kind enough to let me have his copy with added comments. I think they wanted to surprise the guests, so the menu always changes. The days menu was titled ” Chelsea flower show afternoon tea”. The menu changes in 2 weeks time to a Royal themed menu.
The sandwiches were decent, Angus beef being my favourite. However they aren’t as good as the ones I had at the Mandarin hotel’s roseberry lounge. That said it must be noted that the Mandarin hotels afternoon tea is considerably more expensive . Roseberry lounges afternoon tea with a glass of Ruinart blanc de blancs, not to mention the Krug Grande cuvée (£89) can set you back £62, while the Marriots unlimited champagne afternoon tea costs about £44, including service charge. Quite worth it.
The cakes and scones were the highlights I reckon. Stuffed myself on quite a few of those.
There goes my London southbanks Marriott county hall hotel afternoon tea experience. Good customer service and good teas in a relaxed atmosphere. Very attractive pricing as well.
Ps: Thanks for some of the pics Carolina.
With classical tea set pottery with flower paintings. I love it. The scone look very nice.
