The weekends almost over and its back to work again in a few hours. This past week has been hectic and fun indeed. I caught up with friends that I hadn’t seen in a while and ate some nice food at some good restaurants ( Vapiano’s , Plateau and Butlers wharf chop house). I also attempted a soufflé for the first time ever and spent an evening having some nice snacks at a small get together.
A snapshot of my week can be seen below. The first restaurant we visited was just a few minutes walk from London Bridge or the famous Borough Market.
Vapianos
One of the things I love about Vapiano’s is being able to watch your food made right in front of you. Very good prices and simple tasty Italian pastas (I haven’t tried the Pizzas yet) makes this place one of my fave restaurants.
Salmone: Salmon, Crème Fraiche, Cream, Cherry tomatoes, rocket and white wine |
I love cream based pastas like the one above. I always get teased about the fact that I only ever pick between the ‘Salmone’ and Salmon Carbonara. I would just like to blame Vapiano’s for this as their creamy pasta dishes always ends up being soo good it deters me from being adventurous on future visits. Any chance you can convince me to try something else Vapianos?.One of my top ‘care-free’ restaurants indeed.
Plateau
I spent Monday evening catching up with a friend at a restaurant in Canary wharf called Plateau . Modern French food, lovely views of Canary Wharf and very friendly staff makes this place one of the best restaurants in the area. This is my 3rd visit this year and I have loved it every time.
Grilled Mackerel, Potato Salad and Sourdough. |
Billingsgate fish pie: Cod, Haddock, Prawns and Salmon |
1/2 grilled lobster, garlic butter and Pommes frites |
Hazlenut Crème brulee, dried raspberry and Sable biscuit |
I had a nice time at this restaurant yet again. Food tasted good and I have to commend our waiter. She recommended everything. The dishes and her sense of humour was a nice touch to the evening. I don’t quite remember her name though… oh well, next time I guess. Definitely looking forward to visiting in 2015.
Butlers Wharf Chop house
My weekend also involved eating out at a restaurant called Butlers Wharf Chop House just by Tower Bridge ( I know, I know… all I do is eat out. I have to find content for the blog somewhere!) The food was average however our waiter was very friendly and it’s a good place to sit down and admire the view especially during the summer months.
Cauliflower and Truffle Soup. I love all things truffle, so this was awesome! |
Baked Scallops with a Garlic & Herb crumb. |
Roast Rib of beef |
Roast pork loin with Bramley Apple Sauce |
Sticky toffee pudding with Vanilla Ice cream. This dessert always does it for me 🙂 |
Home baking and eating out at friend’s
This past week just wasn’t about eating out at restaurants. I baked a Strawberry Soufflé for the first time ever with the help of Michel Roux’s recipe. It wasn’t too bad for a first attempt if I may say so myself.
I also spent an evening at Francois and Rebecca’s flat over the weekend. Nice company, good food and some whiskey on the rocks always warms the heart in my opinion.
There goes my week and what a packed one it was. 3 more days of work and Christmas begins. I plan to spend some of the time compiling a post featuring all the best restaurants have been to this year, so keep an eye out 🙂
Ciao for now
