Friday night in Busaba Eathai and Caffe Concerto

Yayy.. works over and weekend begins. I am still in bed as am writing this and what do you know, it’s 2pm on a Saturday afternoon with nothing to show for my previous night except a full stomach and a miserable hangover. It’s a testament to how much my friend and i ate and drank during this 3 hour catch up. It’s going to be her “21st” birthday (cough) next week and as such it was a good time to catch up and talk about the good old times while moaning about how we could still manage to finish a few bottles of wine if we just tried a little harder.

The theme of the friday night was East meets West. The idea was to eat at a Thai restaurant (Busaba Eathai ) and then finish it off with Tarts, scones, Tea and strawberry milkshakes for dessert at a place in staratfords westfield mall called Caffe concerto. Peculiar combination on a Friday night out, however therein lies the fun of these catch ups.

Busaba Eathai

There are many noticeable features when you enter this restaurant. It had a nice décor, lovely scented smells and communal tables that makes the atmosphere quite different to what you would normally experience. We shared a table with 6 other people, 2 of which were couples on a first time date and you could see they weren’t too comfortable as it didn’t have that personal romantic feeling because of the communal factor. So if you are looking for a romantic dinner, I wouldn’t recommend it but in a group, yes! I think it’s a perfect place to go out with friends on the whole . The food tasted quite good and price was pocket friendly. It isn’t a surprise that its one of the best thai restaurants to eat out in London according to a Timeout article . Check out the dishes below.

Thai Calamari with ginger and peppercorns

Nice tasting squid. Very Moorish

Chill Prawn fried rice with Shitake Mushrooms

Generous portions of prawns in a beautiful pillar of rice..what’s there not to like.

Mussaman Duck Curry with Potato, Peanut and Onion

Tender and delicate duck with nice chunks of potato in a creamy yet slightly spicy sauce. A very good dish

Pad Thai

Rice noodles, Juicy Prawns, dried Shrimp, Tofu, Egg, Peanut, Beansprout and lime. Absolutely delish.

Chargrilled Duck with Chinese broccoli and tamarind sauce

I can still taste the duck. Tangy, well grilled and finger licking brilliant. I always make it my mission to order this dish

I had my lovely warm Sake and my friend had a Bellini for the night.

I almost struggled to move after all we ate, but we still had Caffé Concerto in mind. Getting up from that table was hard work. The only time I remember eating more than this was when I visited a restaurant called Nautika in Dubrovnik.  A 7 course meal that kept me awake hallucinating about food till 4am. Possibly one of the best restaurants have ever been. Okay, back to east London. Like I mentioned earlier we went to Caffe Concerto for a few more nibbles.

Nice afters at Caffe concerto.Cherry tart, strawberry milkshake, scones and a tea

Caffe Concerto was a nice place to put our feet up. We got teased by a couple of girls sitting a few chairs from us about the fact we were ordering tea on a Friday night ( painful), which made for a few laughs. It was a very good evening indeed. The only thing I might have added is more glasses of champagne at Caffe Concerto…. Well one more week to go for Rose’s birthday so I guess we can make up for it.

Happy Birthday Bestie. This posts for the years of friendship.

Have a nice weekend and see you soon everyone.
