Hi everyone, hope your having a good week so far?. If you’ve been reading my posts for a while now, you might have figured out that I love Spanish food. We spent the previous Saturday afternoon at 2 amazing restaurants, Jose pizarro and it’s Tapas bar ‘Jose’ based in Bermondsey street. The restaurants are owned by Jose, the former Exec Chef at Brindisa in Borough Market ( Check out the Brindisa review in my earlier posts). A few hours eating the quality dishes served at Jose’s restaurants definitely brought a smile on our faces as this was probably some of the best tasting Spanish dishes we’ve had in London which in my opinion makes it one of best spanish restaurant in London.
Jose Pizarro
★★★★☆
lovely tasting pork ribs and Cauliflower purée
Delightful cauliflower puree and sumptuous tasting soft ribs. Quite Moorish indeed.
Rib eye steak and potato mash
★★★★☆
We really liked this dish. The steak was perfection and the mash was soft and creamy ( it still doesn’t beat the Clos Maggiore Truffle mash review I did a few weeks ago).
After trying out the mains at Jose Pizarro’s , we headed off to the walk in Tapas bar, Jose’s just down the road. The restaurant was small, cozy and warm. There are only a few stools, so be prepared to stand for a bit. We got there around 2pm on a Saturday and we only stood for about 5 mins, so it wasn’t bad at all. The kitchen was open plan so you get to see what’s happening and the menu is on a chalk board for all to see.
Some of the Spanish tapas served were among the best have had in London. I can only reiterate the quality of the dishes
Garlic and Chilli Prawns
★★★★☆
The soft and tender prawns was one of the best tasting prawns have ever had. The prawns were lightly immersed in a garlic and chili oil that was plate licking delicious. Make sure you have chunks of bread in hand to scoop up the whole plate. This dish was accomplished.
Croquettes
★★★☆☆
Crispy skin and moist on the inside. They don’t really tell you the filling, but it seems like it had bits of chorizo and creamy cheese. Sumptuous indeed
Iberican pork fillet
★★★★☆
This juicy pork was slightly rare seasoned with olive oil and sea salt flakes. The dish was simple and flavorful. I quite liked it and will order it again on my next visit..
Chocolate with olive oil and salt flakes.
★★★★☆
I really liked this combination of chocolate and olive oil. I scooped the whole cup actually. Give this little treat a try.
Rice pudding
★★★☆☆
This rice pudding topped with cinnamon was quite yummy and delicious. A nice dessert, however I think the chocolate, olive oil and salt dessert was better.
There are many things to do in London, so make sure that eating at José’s is one of them. Hope you enjoyed reading this and if you have any restaurant suggestions, please suggest away in the comments section.
All in all, I had a lovely time in Bermondsey street. I hope to be back there eating and drinking good wine in a few weeks.
